This was really easy to whip up and didn't call for any crazy ingredients. My pups were timid at first because they're not used to such natural, healthful snacks, but they quickly gobbled them up! I'll definitely make these again for my dogs and my friends' dogs.

My dogs loved these Blueberry Banana Treats. I made some soft, some crunchier. They liked them better than any treat I've given them.
They refused to eat their food hoping for more of them. I also gave them to a few friends with the same reaction. Great recipe and so very, very easy. THANK YOU!

We baked these treats and they were SO easy! We put dried cranberries in it instead of blueberries.
So it smelled REAAAAALLLLLLY yummy! (: Thanks Again!

My pup loves these, but he prefers the crunchy treats over the softer ones. I added a little more flour to these an rolled them out and used cookie cutters. They came out great!

My Boxer Bella loves these treats!! I substitute the Rye Flour for Whole Wheat Flour and they turn out perfect.
I have started to make these on an almost weekly basis for her. I am more than happy to take 30 minutes out of my weekend to make her a healthy treat.
I make sure to store them in an air tight container in the fridge so they will last longer.

Super quick and easy to make. Made about 30 1" spheres. Piper likes them well enough, but he likes the Double Carob Cookies with Peanut Butter better. The dough is quite tasty.

Hi, I have an elderly dog that has teeth issues so I'm always looking for softer items he can enjoy without a lot of unnecessary ingredients. Thanks.
Chef's Answer ~ No, these treats are not hard when baked for the recommended 16 minutes.
You could even decrease the baking time to 13 or 14 minutes and they would be even softer. They won't have as nice of a brown color on the outside, but I'm sure your dog will be OK with that. :)
We have several dog treat recipes that are made to be soft. You might also want to check out our Cherry Oatmeal Dog Muffin recipe.
I hope this helps. Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)

My 12 year old min pin absolutely loves the blueberry treats with bananas and oats. The ingredients do not upset his stomach at all, which is wonderful. He has one every day. Thank you for a great recipe!!

Could you substitute anything for the blueberries?
Chef's Answer ~ Yes, you can substitute other berries, such as strawberries or raspberries.
If you want you could also change this treat to a vegetable focused treat by substituting soft cooked green beans or peas.

My dog loved them. This is the second treat I've baked for my dog and she has never been happier. She is giving me lots of love and she is very content.
She's a little overweight, so I've put her on a low fat diet, I've been making her homemade dog food and everything.
She's 12 1/2 years old and I want her to live as long as she can.

Can you use use any type of flour other than Rye, like Oat?
Chef's Answer ~ Yes, you can use a different type of flour. I would recommend using a blend of wheat, gluten and grain free flours. If you'd like to use oat flour, then for this recipe I would use 1/2 cup oat flour, 1/2 cup almond flour and 1/4 cup tapioca flour for the best results.
If you wanted to use only oat flour, you may need to adjust the liquid amounts to accommodate a different type of flour. Possibly adding more milk, a little at a time, if the dough wasn't coming together well enough.

Would love to use strawberries instead of bananas in this recipe. How much strawberries should I use? Thanks so much!
Chef's Answer ~ That sounds like a yummy homemade dog treat! :)
Anytime you are substituting one dog approved fruit for another in a dog treat recipe, you will want to use the same amount.
So, for this recipe you will want to use 1/4 cup of washed, prepared and sliced strawberries.

I didn't have rye flour so I used whole wheat. I made smaller treats as I have small dogs. They aren't "crunchy", but my babies LOVE them. I'll make them again.

I just took these out of the oven early (about 3 mins) because I could smell it burning. I was curious and while it was still warm I sliced half and took a bite. I'm not sure how they should be on the inside but to me they tasted a bit like steamed dough and were soft, should these cookies be this way or did I under bake them?
Chef's Answer ~ These dog treats are suppose to be soft inside. But, they should be baked through. You can test them by putting a toothpick in the middle of one while they are warm and if the toothpick comes out clean, they are done baking.
I wonder, is it possible that you made larger treats than the recommended 1 inch cookie scooper? If so, that could explain the underdone middles.
You may also want to double check your ovens temperature with a separate oven thermometer that hangs from one of the interior racks. It's possible that your oven runs hotter than the setting on the outside. That could be another explanation as to why the treats didn't turn out the way they should.

I made this using frozen blueberries and substituted the rye flour for whole wheat and ended up substituting the oats with bran flakes on a last minute oops because I had run out of oats! I crunched up the bran flakes and used the equivalent measurements.
I also added about a teaspoon of honey to the mixture. I formed about 30 small balls and cooked for 16 minutes but then turned the oven off and let them sit in the oven for about another 10 minutes as I found the center to be to doughy still when i took one out to cool at 16.
My 4 1/2 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback pup loved it! At first she spit it out because the texture was different for her but she kept putting it back in and chewing it! She looked up for more after that first bite! Success!!
