My dog is allergic to oats. Is there something else I can substitute in for the oats? Thanks!
Chef's Answer ~ Poor little sweetie, rolled oats are in so many dog treat recipes!
OK, where there's a will, there's a way. Rolled oats usually lend texture to dog treats. So you'll need to replace that texture. I haven't tried the substitutions below, so you will need to do some experimenting. Make a 1/4 batch of a dog treat recipe that you think your dog will like.
You could try one or a mixture of the following: rice cereal, quinoa flakes, buckwheat groats, rye berries or hulled millet. You can also look at a health food store in their cereal isle. They may have one of the above mixed with something else that your dog may be able to have.
What you try may depend on what you can find locally or what you are willing to buy online.
If you have any other questions, please come back here to ask. I'm happy to help any dog that needs special treatment to get special treats. :)
I hope this helps. Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)
