These dog treats make my kids jealous of the dogs!

by Joanne
(Michigan)

My dogs and bunny love these, all three will wait in the doorway of the kitchen while I am baking.

The bunny will actually try to steal them from the dogs, my labs are so calm they just look at the bunny, then turn and look at me as if they are saying "mommmmmm he took my coooookie".

My son's and daughter both get so excited because they think I am making peanut butter cookies for them!

Next recipe will be for bunny snacks and maybe some tuna for the cat, he didn't like the chicken ones at all....but the dogs did. LOL

Easy and Yummy Dog Treats!

by Cin
(Mass)

I used beef broth instead of water. Also, I roll them into teaspoon size balls, so they can all fit onto one cookie sheet for the overnight sitting.

All dogs I've fed them to, eat 'em up. YUM!

My Dogs Loved These Homemade Dog Treats!

by Leanne
(Garnet Valley, PA)

Easy to make and my morkie and cocker spaniel gobbled them up!

I made some for the neighbors' dogs and told them that the treats smell like regular cookies but have no sugar, food coloring or preservatives in them. I highly recommend making these dog treats.

Dogs love this homemade dog treat recipe!

I have two dogs, one will eat just about anything and the other is a picky eater.

For the first batch I followed the recipe exactly and they loved it. The second batch I pureed frozen green beans in a food processor then mixed it in with the other ingredients. The dogs loved it also.

This is an easy recipe to follow and my 9 year old son enjoyed helping. My husband saw us having so much fun making and cutting out the treats with the cookie cutter that he came and joined us! Awesome!!!

My dog loved the dog treat recipe

As normal when I start cooking my dog, Sapphire, has to be in the kitchen with me.

However, as it started baking she didn't leave the kitchen as the scent filled the house. I gave her one once they were baked and cooled she loved it and wanted another.

I did give her another but she was still siting in the begging position. I will not give her another one because she doesn't know when to stop eating I will give her one tomorrow, but not today, I don't want her to overeat. She loves them I don't know about all dogs but I know Sapphire loves them.

Dog Treats Smell Great!

by Punkstermom

We made a bunch of these for doggie stocking stuffers and doggie gifts to others. Our boys couldn't even keep their noses off the dough (not to mention they had their samples LOL)! I think this one is going to be a regular project with the kids :)

Cookie Delight

by Doris Glanz
(Texas City, Texas)

I made this recipe, and we all loved them. Yes, "we," meaning I ate a few also. No reason not to eat them myself, they are made of flour, oatmeal, peanut butter and water.

I think 40 minutes may be too long for cooking. Mine started to burn. I will make these again, but cook at a lower temp, and check to make sure they are not getting over done.

I did not use a cookie cutter, just cut them in small squares. They are very crisp and the dogs loved that about them.

We did not let them sit in the oven overnight; they were eaten right away. Not sure why it was suggested they sit in the oven overnight, don't think that step is needed. I have three dogs and they all really liked these cookies.

Taste tested dog treat recipe and approved with variation.

by Cheryl
(Manalapan, NJ)

We have a great dane mix with a sensitive tummy and still trying to figure out what he's allergic to. We also have a Rotty and Pit mix who will eat any food.

I used Rice flour instead of the whole wheat and had about 11 egg shells that were left in a carton in the fridge. I put the egg shells in the food processor, added the peanut butter and hot water and blended it together. The shell didn't powderize but was in tiny bits. I added that to the Rice flour and oatmeal.

I had cut them into 1 1/2 inch circles. They turned out hard enough for them to work on it a bit but showed no problems eating them.

Could this recipe be no cook as well if I use a dehydrator? If so I could add the probiotics and maybe a daub of fish oil?

Thank you so much for this and I don't have a picture yet, second batch is cooling now.

Chef's Comments ~ I'm so glad to hear you're able to make homemade dog treats for your dogs. :) I'd love to see photos of your finished treats and/or your dogs enjoying your efforts.

I don't have a lot of experience in dehydrating dog cookies, but, I do believe that this recipe could be used that way. From what I understand you will want to keep your dehydrator around 105 degrees to ensure that the probiotics remain intact. I'm not sure if the fish oil would be OK for a dehydrator. You could always brush the finished treats with a light coating of a mixture of fish oil and chicken broth to add to the flavor and nutrition of the dog treat.

I hope this helps! Happy Dog Treat Baking :)

Great recipe!

by T.Dennis
(California)

I was looking for a simple dog treat recipe that my Girl Scouts could make to donate to a local animal shelter. This recipe was perfect because it was so easy. The shelter was very grateful and we have yet to find a dog or puppy that doesn't love these treats.

Love the dog Biscuits

by Marcia
(O'fallon, MO. USA)

Our dogs love the dog biscuits. When I was making the recipe, I saw that you were supposed to let the dog treats sit in the oven overnight. Then I saw if your dogs could not wait until then, to let them cool off and then let them have them.

Our youngest puppy loves peanut butter. We give it to her when we give our older dog medicine. So when Sassy saw that I had the peanut butter, she wanted it then. There was no way for her to have to wait overnight. Looks like I should have made more than one batch.

It is better for our dogs to have food that doesn't have bad things in their foods. This is good for you food and they love it!

Our older dog Precious has arthritis. Do you have any recipes that can help her with her arthritis?

Thanks so much for the recipe!

Chef's Answer ~ I'm glad the dog treat recipe was a hit! :) Dogs with arthritis can benefit from dog treats with cherries. Try this Cherry Oatmeal Dog Muffin to start. However, depending on the severity of your dogs condition, you may want to consider Glucosamine Chondroitin for Dogs. You can still make dog treat recipes, but after the treats are baked, put a pill in the middle of the treat.

I hope this has helped! :)

AWESOME Dog Treat Recipe!

My dogs went crazy for them! Instead of rolling the dough out, I made them into thin disc's by rolling the dough into logs then slicing it with a knife. These treats worked for my labradoodle, mix, and yorkies!

Was out of the Paul Newmans dog treats

by Mike P
(Cincinnati, OH, USA)

I usually give my younger two dogs Paul Newmann's Peanut Butter treats (which are great) but forgot them at the store. My older boy usually gets two Glucosamine treats daily and to give the other two something at the same time, I give them PN's treats.

Well I found this recipe and within 20 minutes had them made up. I didn't actually roll them, just kneaded them and then made into little cookies.

My dogs have gone NUTS over them. I have to give the older one a treat too because he was wondering what all the fuss was from my other two. I made a single recipe but it made around 40. My wife thought that was so great she doesn't want me to buy the store treats again my dogs get so excited about these.

Cheap, Easy, and apparently Ohhh Sooo Good Dog Treats!!!!

by WDGriggs
(Manning, SC)

Great recipe. So easy.

All I have to do is ask my two dogs.... Want a cookie? And the tails start waggin'

Made 'em 1/4" thick and believed them to be too thin. I now make them a little thicker per my taste not the dogs.

Had to wet my hands to roll out as dough was too dry. Me and flour never get along anyway.. LOL.

Thanks

Dog Treats made with "homemade" oat flour

My older lab is allergic to wheat, so I substituted oat flour. You can make your own oat flour using rolled/quick oats. Just put some in a blender and pulse until you get a fine powder. It won't be as fine as wheat flour, and it gives the cookies a coarser texture, but the puppies don't mind.

Another substitution the dogs liked was chicken broth in place of the water. They now sit in front of the oven waiting for the cookies when they see me making them.

Great kids project!!

by Chrissy
(Albany, NY)

I made these with my 20 month old. She had so much fun, it was so easy and all the ingredients are safe, so if she does put in her mouth we are all OK! Though she didn't try to lol, I kept saying they were for the doggie!! And the batter isn't sticky so she can do the cutters herself very easily!!!

P.S. The dog loves them too!! Thanks for the fun for the whole family!!!

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Dog Biscuit

by Veronica
(Crown Point, In )

This recipe is so easy and fun for my non furry kids to make for the furry kids. My dogs and foster dogs absolutely love them!! Even my furry niece and nephew go nuts over them!! One thing we did was put 1/4 cup applesauce in also and just a little over 1 cup of water, instead of 1 1/4 cup water. The dogs loved the biscuits this way also!

Our dog paced in front of the oven

by Colleen J.
(Wisconsin Dells, WI)

The whole thing that brought me to this page was when I went to pick my dog up from the groomers, she gave him a homemade dog treat. She had bought one of the treat makers (like a waffle or sandwich maker) that keeps the treats soft like a pancake.

Since he loved the treat soft, I decided to only cook these for about 12-15 minutes and make them a tad thicker. I think he had a feeling when I was mixing them that they were for him. And while they were baking, he paced in front of the oven.

Verdict: he loved them. We splurged and let him eat 4 of them after they cooled. They weren't too big so that was OK. We had bought a cutout set of 3 different sized bones from a major pet store online.

Good dog treats

by Fred Burrall
(Marietta, GA)

Great. Muffin loved both the crunch and the taste. No problem with sticky dough. Found out if you nuke the peanut butter for 20 seconds, or so, it mixes easier. Added a couple tablespoons of honey just for the heck of it, and that went over well.

My older dog Loves these homemade dog treats!

My dog loves these! He's an older dog so I made these treats chewy instead of hard. Sometimes I add carob chips or honey. I also use all natural or organic peanut butter.

They're so quick and easy to make, I love it. And I like knowing EXACTLY what is going in my dogs treats.

Yumm & easy to make dog treats

by Mia Levetan-Setzer

My dogs absolutely love them!

by Patti V
(Dearborn Hts, MI)

Wanted to have some kitchen fun a few weeks ago and decided to make my three dogs some puppy treats. Didn't want to roll the dough out, so I tore it into small pieces instead. My dogs absolutely love them!

My sister has a standard poodle who is a VERY picky eater. I brought some treats over just for fun. Voltair initially took one, then dropped it on the floor and walked away. His brother LJ was enjoying them! Voltair then came back looking at me expectantly. I held one out to him and he took it and devoured it! My sister could not believe it! Gave her some and he took them from her also.

What fun! Will be making LOTS of these!

I made these easy treats for my 4 yorkies and 1 lab and they absolutely loved them.

So I decided to make some and sell them at a Relay for Life Bake Sale. I put two in a package and labeled them "Fido Fightin' Cancer". What a hit they were. People are coming back wanting more as their dogs liked them so well. Thanks a lot for the recipe.

Love this dog treat recipe!

Love this recipe. Very simple and the dogs love it. I just don't like how they bubble up in some spots, other than that, great!

Chef's Comments ~ To reduce the air bubbles in this dog treat recipe, or any recipe, you should check two things. First, use an oven thermometer, if the temperature is off you'll get bubbles. Second, try not to over mix or stir the wet and dry ingredients. Sometimes if you over mix you can introduce air bubbles that release in the oven. Hope that helps! :)

It was my first time making dog treats ever & my dogs love them!!

It was my first time making dog treats ever, they turned out really nice.

I made a few changes because my daughter for some reason wanted to try it, and she said it was too plain. So for half of them I spread some peanut butter over the top of it, and for the other half I soaked them in beef broth to give them more flavor.

Kadan and Kasper absolutely love their new treats! And they are way healthier than store bought treats!!

Our Pit Bull loves the dog treats!!!

by Becca Marshall
(Midlothian, TX, USA )

I make a batch at least every two weeks for our pit bull, Ellie! She loves them! I always do the little round cookies, they last longer, and since treats are mainly for me bribing her to go outside (lifting a 70 lb dog wears you out!) I don't want to make big treats!

I made these as a treat for my Havanese's 1 year birthday. He LOVED them so much, that he cried until I gave him another one!

The rest are going with us to doggy day care to celebrate my Sullivan's 1st birthday. I bet all of the dogs will love them as much as he does!

Easy and delicious, try it!

by Stephanie
(San Diego, CA)

These biscuits were easy to make. I made them for my dogs 2nd birthday.

I doubled the recipe so I could refrigerate some of them for later.

I let my dog smell the biscuit first, worried that he would sniff and walk away, then he started wagging he's tail and sat to wait for me to hand him the treat..... He grabbed it and ran to his favorite spot and ate it all up. I had him in front of me within 1 min asking for more with those beautiful brown eyes. Try it!! They are healthy treats!!!

A big hit with my dogs!!

by Connie

My son gave me some dog themed cookie cutters for Christmas. I found this recipe and had all the ingredients and decided to try them. My dogs both loved them.

Our local humane society has a yearly bake sale just before Easter and I think I'll make some with the smaller cookie cutters. One lady always makes large dog cookies, but I think I'll make some for the smaller dogs. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Easy and an Instant Fave Dog Treat!

This was the first recipe I ever made for my babies when I decided to start making my own dog treats/cookies. It is so easy and my kids (dogs) love these, I have a few different recipes that I rotate every few weeks and this is my "lazy" one. My pittie especially loves these and she lies on the floor in front of the stove until they are done!

My dogs love these dog treats!

by Julie

My lab was drooling while I was making the dough, surprising because they rarely get anything besides dog food. Glad to have this recipe to give them something special.

Regarding the stickiness of the dough, I wrapped in saran wrap and refrigerated for a half hour, just like I would any other dough that would be cutout, worked perfectly!

Great dog treats with brown rice flour and shredded carrot

I'm about to make my second batch of these - my dog loves them. I did a "taste test" with some store-bought non-wheat (= very expensive) treats and he prefers these. I substituted brown rice flour and threw in a little shredded carrot for fun. Doubled the recipe and froze half. Thanks for the easy, inexpensive treat!

Peanut Butter Oat Cookies

by Meeghan
(Arlington, VA USA)

I found your website a few months back, and tried a lot of the recipes, easy and gourmet. This one was by far the easiest to get right the first time, as well the most accomplished according to our many dog testers. It was so easy, in fact, that we came up with our own version that uses less oats (and a version for both instant and regular oats when we bought the wrong one on sale!) and has a drier consistency due to lower oven temp and longer cooking time so that the cookies last longer in the cookie jar.

Thanks so much for this awesome recipe! The hardest part is the rolling, and we usually make batches that are equivalent to four or five of your posted batches. I'll bet that a wide-thickness pasta maker could reduce the effort required for rolling out the cookie dough as well.

I have tried these cookies on over fifty dogs, and they have not once been turned down, though I have often almost lost a few fingers to drooling puppies! We also have been brushing egg whites on the tops of the cookies to give them a shine and that impresses the owners just as much as the taste seems to impress the pups.

Kudos!
