Hi,
Thanks for this great recipe. I used this recipe to make a birthday cake for my dog, Win win. It's her 10th birthday! She loved it very much and so did my other dogs.

Could I leave out the ginger? Or what type of ginger do I need to add? Ginger powder of minced ginger or ginger juice? Thanks!
Chef's Answer ~ You can omit the ginger in this dog treat recipe if you want.
You will want to use dried or powdered ginger in this recipe. I've updated the recipe to indicate that it should be dried. Thanks for letting me know it wasn't clear.
I hope this helps. Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)

I am planning on baking this cake for my 5 yr old Labrador.
What else can I use in place of pecans?
thanks a ton..:)
Chef's Answer ~ You can use peanuts or almonds. If possible, use the dry roasted and unsalted variety. It's best to avoid walnuts and macadamia nuts. Enjoy baking the dog cake!

Hi All,
My Dog and I are involved in Pets on Wheels. Last year at Baltimore's pet expo I made the cake for Buddy, my golden retriever, to share with his friends. One of the "Golden Girls" (my friends 2 golden's) decided it was all hers and jumped up on the table and stole all she could!! She did leave a little to share with other friends and every dog liked it! I've been meaning to make it for her again and it looks like new year's is going to be it! It's an awesome recipe that even some human's would love!! Thanks for sharing it with us!!

Hi there
Ive tried a couple of recipes for dog cakes and the texture is dense and chewy. Is this right? I can't imagine it being soft and bouncy like a human cake but don't know if it is too dense?
Cheers
Anita
Chef's Answer ~ Yes, the texture is more on the dense side. You're right, it's not a delicate cake.
The dog cake would only be extra chewy if you over mixed the batter. Once the wet ingredients are added to the dry, it only needs to be stirred until it combines. If you are looking for a chewy texture, you could try stirring it more than average.
Since dogs often enjoy chewing on hard bones, I don't think it would be possible to make a dog cake too dense. If you have a dog with few teeth or something similar, then you would want to make sure to create a softer treat.
I hope this helps. Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)

Can I make this in mini cupcake form? A big bunt cake or even cake rounds are much too big for your chi babies. Thank you!
Chef's Answer ~ Yes, you should be able to make mini muffins instead of a cake. I recommend watching the baking time very closely. Since they're considerably smaller, I would check the muffins after 8 to 10 minutes with a toothpick to see if they are done.
I hope this helps! Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)

I don't have a bundt pan is it possible to just bake it all in the oven? Thanks
Chef's Answer ~ Yes, you can bake this dog cake in a regular 8 inch round cake pan. Watch the baking time as it may need to be adjusted so the cake is not over or under done.
