Peachy keen dog cookie recipe - is it safe for Addison's Disease?

by Mary

This sounds delicious - BUT IS IT SAFE FOR MY DOG WHO HAS ADDISON'S DISEASE? (instead of the whole wheat flour in recipes I use BROWN RICE FLOUR).

Thank you for your advice - my dogs love the homemade cookies/treats that I have made from this website!!!!!

Mary

Chef's Answer ~ To be on the safe side, any homemade dog treat that is made for a dog with very special needs should be double checked through your Vet. She should be able to give you a list of foods to avoid for your dog and then you can make other homemade dog treats with confidence that they are safe for your dog.

I hope this helps. Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)

Peachy Keen oatmeal cookies

These smelled good enough for me to eat! I was tempted. Shane, my 2 year old English Mastiff loved them. Of course he eats almost anything you give him, except shrimp and mushrooms. But....these were good and so easy to make. Made the house smell like peach pie! Now I may have to bake a peach pie for me.
LOL

Since this recipe uses canned peaches, I wonder if you could substitute pears or apricots? Being careful of pits of course.

For this recipe why couldn't the peaches be substituted with pears or apricots, taking care to discard the pits.

Chef's Answer ~ Great idea! The peaches could absolutely be substituted for another canned fruit.

Be sure to look for fruit that is packed in light or no syrup. If you can only find fruit packed in heavy syrup, be sure to thoroughly rinse the fruit before adding to your homemade dog treats.
