I made the peanut butter dog treat with Safflower Oil. I have two mini dachshunds. I have tried a few of your other recipes, but they really seemed to like these best! I also made the pumpkin ice cream treats, but they are still freezing right now, but I am anxious to see their reaction.

I really like this recipe. I love the fact that i "could" actually give this treat to my kids as well as the dog. The kids helped me make an "edible" Easter basket for the dog and had enough dough to make lots of cut-out shapes and lil' bites as well!
Thanks,
David

Our shelties loved these treats! We baked them as written except that we did not roll them out, but made brownie treats instead. A hit! Thanks very much!

I've tried several recipes from your site, and this one is a favorite standby. My dogs always go nuts over these treats, and I enjoy the kneading and the consistency of the finished dough. Plus, if you use a small dog bone cookie cutter it makes a huge batch -- nearly 100 treats.

How long would it take to dehydrate this treat?
And could I replace both flours with Rye flour, for sensitive dogs? I know now a days, a lot of dogs can't always eat wheat based foods.
Chef's Answer ~ The length of time it would take to dehydrate this, or any homemade dog treat depends on the size or thickness of the finished treat. The humidity level in your home can also play a factor in how long it takes to dehydrate something.
You'll also want to take into consideration what temperature you will dry the treats at, to determine the length of time. A higher temperature won't take as long as a lower temperature.
You may have to experiment with the temperature and time to get just the right texture.
You can substitute the whole wheat flour for rye flour just fine in this dog treat recipe. However, keep in mind that although rye flour is wheat free, it is not gluten free, so you may want to use something else if this is a concern.
I hope this helps. Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)
