How do you make these treats soft for older dogs?
Chef's Answer ~ Great question. It's actually very easy, just bake them for less time. :) The recipe calls for baking them for 40 minutes and then leaving them in the oven once it is turned off to continue to bake. What I would do is bake the dog cookies for 30 minutes and then let them cool on the pan on a wire rack on your counter.
Of course, this recommendation is based on rolling the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. If you roll them out thicker, or if you make round cookies, you will need to test the cookie to make sure that it is completely baked through. You can do this by taking the baking tray out of the oven at the 30 minute mark and testing the cookie with a toothpick. If you stick a toothpick in the center of one of the cookies, and it comes out clean, your cookies are done.
I hope this helps. :)
